Hello!
I'm Yury, an illustrator from Costa Rica based in Portugal, Europe. In addition to my professional work, I am a mom, a wife, and a dedicated cat caregiver.
From an early age, I immersed myself in the art world, experimenting with various mediums, including oil, watercolor, charcoal, graphite, and acrylic paints. Beyond drawing, I have a passion for traveling, cooking, rollerskating, and playing board games. I also have a deep love for the outdoors, nature, animals, and I cherish the diversity of meeting new people and exploring different cultures.
My passion for art, nature, and urbanism led me to pursue and complete my university degree in architecture. However, after working in the field, I realized that my true passion lies in the artistic aspects of drawing and coloring rather than the technical side of construction. Consequently, I have dedicated myself to helping others bring their words to life through vibrant and colorful illustrations.
I have experience illustrating children’s books, widely available through platforms like Amazon, Walmart, Barnes & Noble, and many more. I've also collaborated on educational apps for young readers, like NAGWA, creating illustrations that enhance storytelling and engagement. I am proud to mention that I have contributed to the success of my clients' Kickstarter campaigns through my illustrations. I have also worked on projects like: "Tales for the Future," an augmented reality children’s book empowering young girls, and "Milkshakes at Noon," an illustrated Jazz music playlist featured on Homework Radio's YouTube channel.
In 2022, I had the honor of being invited to showcase my work at the V Market of Latin America in Estoril.
In 2022, I successfully completed a comic and narrative course at the Bordalo Pinheiro Museum in Lisbon, where I sharpened my skills in comic creation. I am now a member of the "A RISCAR" Comic Collective, where I collaborate with fellow artists to create comics and participate in various national and international comic festivals. This involvement allows me to continuously refine my skills and stay connected with the vibrant community of comic artists. Some of the festivals I´ve participated in include: Amadora International Comic Festival 2023 & International Comic Festival BEJA 2024
Along with my colleagues, we created an anthology that got the nomination for best comics anthology 2023.
In 2024, I began offering personalized illustration classes for young children.
In 2025, I was invited by the Municipal Chamber of Alenquer, Lisbon, to lead a workshop at their first annual youth event, where I introduced participants to drawing and digital illustration.
In addition to illustrating children's books, I love bringing a wide variety of ideas to life. From illustrated maps, wedding invitations, step-by-step recipes, family portraits, comics, to animal portraits. I enjoy creating unique and personalized artwork for any occasion.
I am always eager to collaborate on projects that resonate with my values and beliefs. It's a privilege to pursue my passion professionally, and I am grateful for the meaningful connections and friendships I've formed with writers through our collaborations; so if you have an idea, let´s talk and bring it to life together! :)
